Volunteering at PCT
Welcome to Pacific Coast Television. Here is some basic information regarding the Station, our training program, fees and opportunities as a volunteer.
WHAT IS PCT?
Operated by Pacifica Community Television, Inc., is coastal San Mateo County’s local access cable television station. PCT is a non-profit, tax-exempt, 501c (3), public-benefit corporation organized to promote public, educational and governmental access to local cable television. Since 1977, PCT has served as training ground for many people just breaking into broadcasting and individuals wanting to explore a new field, PCT offers the opportunity to learn the greatest communication tool in the world: television.
VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
PCT volunteers are the station’s camera people, audio engineers, directors, producers, and all other crew positions that are needed for a production. The station is continuously accepting people into our volunteer program. No experience is necessary! The only requirements are an interest in television production and the ability to work as a team member on a crew.
HANDS-ON TRAINING
Volunteers at PCT are eligible to sign up for WORKSHOPS in the following areas: audio, camera, character generator, directing, floor managing, remote, technical directing, and video tape operating. Information on workshop prerequisites and scheduled times are posted in the front office and on line.
CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
Certificates of training are awarded to those volunteers who have completed workshops and show requirements. PCT volunteers are automatically enrolled in the certificate program.
PROGRAMMING
A variety of programs are produced weekly, live, and taped, at PCT. Station programs are intended to entertain, inform, and educate the community of coastal San Mateo County and have included: city meetings, storytelling for children, senior activities, community events, and the arts.
